who has the best eyebrows in film?

I was recently watching Francis Ford Coppolas 1984 film "The Cotton Club", which is set in a 1930s Harlem jazz club . . . i wasnt hugely impressed with the film but i was completely captivated by Diane Lanes eyebrows . . . fabulous!

Diane Lane in The Cotton Club

Diane Lane and Richard Gere in The Cotton Club

The all-star cast of The Cotton Club:

Richard Gere as Dixie Dwyer
Gregory Hines as Sandman Williams
Diane Lane as Vera Cicero
Lonette McKee as Lila Rose Oliver
Bob Hoskins as Owney Madden
James Remar as Dutch Schultz
Nicholas Cage as Vincent Dwyer
Laurence Fishburne as Bumpy Rhodes
Tom Waits as Irving Stock
Jennifer Grey as Patsy Dwyer

This rekindled my obsession with the eyebrows of 1930s actress Carole Lombard . . . she was the wife of Clark Gable . . . she had daring and bold eyebrows which i very much admire and envy!

They don't make eyebrows like they used to... those old-time movie stars had eyebrows you could write home about. The type of eyebrows that could cut you if your not careful.

Today's movie eyebrows are pedestrian, anaemic affairs - rendered motionless by petrie-dish loads of botox. Unless you're Martin Scorsese. Now THAT guy knows how to grow an eyebrow.

haha hi Brad,
you make me laugh!
martin scorseses eyebrows hahaha
i was thinking more of the females but you are right they really dont make eyebrows like they used to!

hi Cibbuano,
Audrey Hepburn, thats a thicker more sensible eyebrow . . . very distinctive . . . very distinguished . . . perhaps thats the look Brooke Sheilds was going for? lol

another eyebrow i much admire in Rosario Dawson in Death Proof (CLICKHERE for more) and Sin City . . . very elegant

thanks for the comments guys

Definitely Groucho Marx!

I love Jennifer Connelly's eyebrows but only on a face like hers, if I tried that look it would look like caterpillars had nested on my face whereas she looks terribly glam.

I have to say Milla Jovovich has beautiful eyebrows but as Brad said, they don't make them like they used to with the stars of the thirties and forties.

hi Cheryl,
oh Jennifer Connelly is incredibly beautiful, but you do need to have a cute little pixie face to pull off the bold eyebrow!

Great idea for a post!

Let me see... right now I'm thinking about the men-folk, and Orlando Bloom comes up - he has eyebrows so delicate and shapely as to make any female jealous.

Then of course, there's Jake Gyllenhaal, who has very luxurious facial hair.

Viggo Mortensen's eyebrows are barely there, and they look fabulous on him. His skull has little circular indentations just above the eyebrows, which are adorable. You just want to... Ahem, I'm getting off topic now...

Ahha, I finally thought of a lady - Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge (they extended her eyebrow line)!

Jessica Alba's are also pretty good - I'm guessing she waxes them.

I thought everyone knew that Jack Nicholson has the best eyebrows in film.

hey Jayne,
Jack certainly has a very distinctive eyebrow but im not sure if i would want to wear it personally haha
the little boy from About A Boy is developing Nicholson-esque eyebrows . . . maybe that will be his secret to success?

Now I know he's not on film - well expect for the news, but what about Joesph Fritzl? They're not good eyeborwos but they have lot of evil character. You see those eyebrows and you know exactly what kind of person he is.

Kdthestrange - You're discriminating against people based on their eyebrows?
It's not any of his physical attributes that drove him to do what he did, it's his psychology.

I'm not saying his eyebrows made him do it.
As far as I know, eyebrows don't have control ovr a person.
I'm saying that as far as eyebrows go, those are good character eyebrows.
If you were casting a villian in a horror movie you would want those eyebrows.

hi KD The Strange,
yes Fritzls eyebrows would make an excellent "evil" feature for a villain in a horror movie! well spotted!
i guess alot of film characterisations must come from real life "horror" characters!

hi Epiphanie,
its funny how it is human nature to instinctively judge on appearances (a technique that works well in film), you always hear scientific stories about how we dont trust people with thin lips or asymmetrical faces or facial hair . . . some kind of justified intuition by the mob? or do people with unusual features get oestracised and be more likely to develop psychological problems?

Yeah, I've heard that people who are more attractive looking are more likely to get the job than people who aren't, even if their credentials are the same.
I don't think it's justified, and I think it's all on the surface. The more interesting people are able to look beyond appearances.

And yes, people who are discriminated against are more vulnerable to psychological problems. A great example is African Americans in the USA - due to previous generations being disadvantaged the current generation is more likely to get involved in crime, drugs and unsafe sex. And there's usually little stopping them from staying in school and aiming high, but low expectations and the lack of other black role models tends to reproduce the pattern of hardship and suffering. Happily, things are changing.
And, of course, it's a similar story with non-heterosexual people - it's because they are discriminated against and sometimes fear for their lives that they are likely to sink into depression, apathy and despair.
