Interesting assortment of films for the noughties, Morgan. Can't say I agree with all of them, but you definitely have some of my faves for the decade in there!
SO glad Sex and the City didn't rank

haha yeah its probably safe to say the SATC movie wont be on anyones list
i did sneak a couple of rom-coms and period flicks on to my list . . . guilty pleasures of the lady reviewer
hey you should do a list if you have time, it was a fun activity, i was swimming around in dvds covers all morning and checking all the release dates
JohnDoe's got a mega Top 60 list and im really hoping Jason and Bryn will compile lists of some size too

For me your list veers between dreadful (Last Days, Party Monster, Tomb Raider, A Knight's Tale), to excellent (Adaptation, Ghost World, The Dark Knight, Stranger Than Fiction, Iron Man) and occasionally brilliant (Mulholland Drive, Sin City), but with much mediocrity in between (Broken Flowers, Factory Girl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Zoolander, Death Proof, Intolerable Cruelty, Capote, Walk the Line, Pan's Labyrinth) ... a few I've not seen, and a few I purposefully missed.
Did you not like Milk?

i guess i have eclectic taste, i usually like films than contain characters that really speak to me, i cant even really explain my method of selection, basically films i would buy on dvd and watch over and over again
i thought Milk was a good solid movie with important messages and i would rate it highly, but not as outstanding as Last Days for capturing the psyche of an individual, possibly because Milk was more plot and fact driven, which isnt a bad thing, just not my preference, perhaps a whimsical streak in me? i consider Last Days to be Van Sant's best work to date

i certainly am a curious cat . . . and i think Tina Fey is a genius!
hi Janet,
like JohnDoe i was trying to pick across genres, and i think a well executed comedy is just as valuable as a philosophical work . . . i dont suppose i could convince you to create a list too, could i? maybe a Top 10, or Top 5?
hi Jason,
would Avatar top your list? i havent seen it yet
im glad we could agree on a few camp classics and queer cults . . . i think its movie quote time:
Regina: Is butter a carb?

Hmmmm, maybe that was meant to be capturing Cobain and his entourage's psyche??
Drugstore Cowboy is easily my favourite Gus Van Sant movie.

Been awhile since I read one of your posts ;o) I loved some of the films you listed too!
I was kind of hoping that your post would say at least "why?" you like these films ;o)
Like I tried to hate Step Brothers... I really did. Like another movie rolling off the press with Will Farrell and that vehicle he calls comedy... But there was something.. DUMB about that film that grabs you and how pathetic their quarreling became.. anyone with brothers and sisters would know this well. And the scene where he plays his brother's drum kit?
Often the reason we like (or hate) an entire film can be the most simplistic yet beautiful of things ;o)
Love to read your one liners for each film as to why you chose those films ;o)
Hope this finds you smiling

its a bit of a white-wash other than Pans Labyrinth, foreign film is definitely not my forte . . . but i do try
hi Bryn,
its probably a bit like the plastic bag scene in American Beauty, you either agree its the most beautiful thing youve ever seen or you think the guys a wanker
i will tell you i fished it out of a discount bin at Go-Lo say id say more people agree with you than me
hi Danceswithwords,
i got pressed for time and when my list ballooned out to forty it became too daunting of a task to explain each one, i anticipated explaining many in the comments on a need to know basis
Step Brothers, to me, was so very very funny, i dont remember the last time i laughed so much . . . Ferrell was on fire, he actually out-did his Mugatu character from Zoolander, a performance ive long considered to be the funniest thing ive ever seen
i think the most hilarious scenes are where the family (esp, the dad and the yuppie brother) react to the bizarre behaviour of Ferrell and Reilly
i found it hysterical how many times they say "boats and hos" or "the catalina wine mixer" . . . just absurd humour
Ferrell can certainly be hit and miss, but i think Step Brothers was a massive hit
movie quote time:
Dale Doback: Dad, we're men. That means a few things - we like to shit with the door open, we talk about pussy, we go on riverboat gambling trips, and we make our own beef jerky. That's what we do, and now that is all wrecked.
Dr. Robert Doback: We literally have never done any of those things.

Looking at this list I realize how few new movies I've watched in the last few years. I didn't even recognize most of the ones you listed. I've spent a lot of time watching older movies...
I'm going to have to take a look into some of these movies...

Nice personal list, across all genres...its cool
Adaptation was one of those that just scraped out of my list for no real reason. I actually loved my top 120 films of the decade and Adaptation is one that certainly deserves love as do all Kaufman, gondry or Jonze's work.
As expected some I hate, some I love and some I'm indifferent too.
Identity was good fun for sure. Stranger than Fiction surprised me..DeathProof made me smile.
Gosford Park and Broken Flowers were quality technique and I enjoyed them both.
Did you enjoy American Splendor? i ask only because of the affection we both have for Ghostworld. i find they occupy a similar ennui.

Barring a few of your picks, every single film is an American made film.
And then every single one is in the English language.
What about City of God? Spirited Away? The Lives of Others? Amelie? Oldboy?
And then there are films which you completely missed:
Donnie Darko, The Lord of the Rings, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,.
Each to their own though, I suppose.
