SIX FILMS that will make you love Jennifer Lopez
May 16th 2008 15:55
i am such a huge fan of "J.Lo" as an actor, her romantic comedies are some of the best ive seen and given the right material i think little miss "Jenny From The Block" brings a unique sparkle to the silver screen . . . the camera loves her, completely eats her up . . . she brings a humble sensual quality to all her roles, and shes probably the most exquisite natural beauty ive seen in modern feature film . . . yeah im totally smitten!
Jennifer Lopez has a great expressive face and can achieve genuine laughs in comedy while conveying genuine greif, fear, sadness, relief or joy in dramas . . . her ability to emote impresses me every time . . . shes warm and earthy and radiant, lighting up the screen with her smile!
even in bad films she is usually the one redeeming quality despite terrible screenwriting and wooden co-stars (i know everyones probably cringing remembering Gigli)
but here are six of the best:
1. Monster-in-Law (2005) - as Charlotte 'Charlie' Cantilini
also starring: Jane Fonda, Michael Vartan, Wanda Sykes, Adam Scott, Monet Mazur, Annie Parisse
when J.Lo meets the love of her life she soon realises his over-protective mentally-unbalanced mother will play dirty and stop at nothing to separate them, she decides to fight fire with fire
2. Maid in Manhattan (2002) - as Marisa Ventura
also starring: Ralph Fiennes, Natasha Richardson, Stanley Tucci, Bob Hoskins
a cinderalla story where J.Lo is the maid in a ritzy hotel and through a mistaken identity is courted by a rich politician
3. Shall We Dance (2004) - as Paulina
also starring: Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, Lisa Ann Walter, Stanley Tucci
J.Lo inspires a bored middle-aged married man to find his passion through dance
4. The Cell (2000) - as Catherine Deane
also starring: Vince Vaughn, Vincent D'Onofrio, Tara Subkoff, Peter Sarsgaard, Jake Thomas
a thriller where J.Lo is a psychotherapist who journeys inside the mind of a comatose serial killer in the hopes of saving his latest victim (visually stunning, dream/nightmare sequences rival Pans Labyrinth)
5. The Wedding Planner (2001) - as Mary Fiore
also starring: Matthew McConaughey, Bridgette Wilson, Justin Chambers, Judy Greer
a cute comedy of bad timing where J.Lo is the wedding planner who falls in love with the groom
6. Enough (2002) - as Slim Hiller
also starring: Bill Campbell, Juliette Lewis, Dan Futterman, Noah Wyle
inspiring and liberating tale where J.Lo is the victim of domestic violence and stalking trains in self defence and the martial arts to save her daughter and fight back the next time the ex attacks

I think the only thing that would make me like J-lo would be if she quit acting and singing.. seeing her acting and hearing her singing makes me want to smash my head against a wall repeatedly...
Have a great w/end!!!!!

I can't stand J-lo now, but every movie she did before her nose changed shape was not bad. Everything after surgery has been painful....
Out of Sight is easily my favourite film of hers and she is actually quite good in it too.
Selena, U-Turn plus Blood and Wine round out the 4 films I can tolerate with her in it. The rest of her work feels like cruel and unusual torture.

"humble"?
I'm going to assume you are joking.
Nothing could make me love Jennifer Lopez, though I do hear Out of Sight is a good flick as John Doe (J-Doe?), said above.

i cant help it, i just love J.Lo . . . call it a weird fetish but i just love everything she does!
hi Bianca,
oh her singing is great too!
im aware she may not be everyones idea of a great actor, but different strokes for different folks and all that!
please dont injure yourself over this!
hi JohnDoe,
"cruel and unusual torture." haha
somehow i knew my love of J.Lo wasnt going to be a popular opinion!
but thanks for pointing out some films other people might like!
you seriously didnt like The Cell?
hi Ruby,
haha no the thing is im totally not joking, i have a weird obsession with J.Lo, its a strange illness i acquired in highschool and nobody knows the remedy for!
i do find her performances humble . . . she may be a demanding diva in real life, but her acting has a softness and warmth to it you rarely find in other leading ladies!
this may be a more frustrating argument for you than people trying to prove god exists!
thanks for the comments everyone!

It's good that you know what you like, and I have to admit she is quite attractive.

Oh, and if you called everyone who doesn't like J-Lo an ignorant, prejudiced bigot!
But since you are only expressing your own opinion and don't seem to be offended that others don't share your faith in J-Lo, well I guess, I can quite happily live with your J-Lo delusion. haha.

I can only handle a JLo film when I'm mentally exhausted or sick and need a break from the real world. Then I grab a formulaic, predictable safe soppy film that doesn't make me think. It doesn’t happen often but I do believe in some crap at times. But in general, I don’t think her stuff is good.
That was a chirpy comment wasn't it?!

thats ok, i knew what i was in for, poor J.Lo is an acquired taste and will probably never be considered the serious actress that i know she is deep inside!
hi Epiphanie,
yes The Cell is disturbingly violent in places and touches on child abuse and torture in an attempt to show what events go into forming a serial killers mind . . . much of it is quite stylised or implied but i found it confronting
i dont find all formulaic films bland, if the put a fresh take or a new spin on it (and include J.Lo) im happy to watch most romantic comedies
now Ruby
BAHAHAhahaha that was all very clever . . . i love your little religious satires . . . i also think J.Lo would be an excellent deity and am very content in my delusion, frankly if noone else realises she is a goddess then i feel all the more special!
hi Tracy,
yes very chirpy! haha
but it seems to be the general consensus!
thats ok i can fly the "i love J.Lo" banner all on my lonesome . . . *sniff*
just wait until i tell you all how much i admire Dannii Minogue!

and yeah Epiphanie i really do enjoy a spot of Dannii, im not overly concerned with how celebrities behave in their private lives, if they can produce something of quality that i enjoy listening to or watching i dont look too much into what they represent as people . . . although saying that Dannii does look pretty plastic at the moment!
so is everyone gunna hire out the six films i recommended and have a J.Lo movie marathon or what?????
haha

i thought i would be number one! haha
why is Bryn on there? lol
and Lilla, shes the nicest person on orble!
sheer lunacy . . .
anyway back to J.Lo:
and i dont want this to reflect badly on J.Lo but i could only think of 6 films which were worthy of recommendation . . . i have every confidence she will produce even more great films to make a 10 in the future!

about you only been at number 3 on the the list...in all fairness, it was in no particular order.
it is very strange indeed. disagreeing with people is one thing, but this is just plain odd.

perhaps all of her personalities are really anti-J.Lo or anti-latina and this is the most offensive thing ive ever posted . . . she does have a slightly revealing top on in the first pic, i can see her arms and everything!

I don't think the list has much to do with your current online activity, maybe she just felt antagonistic and decided to whip one up.
I say leave her to her misery...

i knew i could rely on YOU to like J.Lo!
and i think youre right, The Cell probably is the best of the bunch . . . i got a bit confused when i was doing the order, i was shuffling them around and around and then i just thought probably noones gunna like ANY of them anyway! haha

She was great going up against Jane Fonda, the love she had for the kid from Maid in Manhattan was so believable, Shall We Dance was HOT (I love Dancing Movies) and have not seen Enough or Wedding Planner but will check them out.
Cool post - what other majorly disliked actors (females included) are cool? Hmmmmmmmmmm, Madonna (Hahahahahahah - not likely), Ben Afleck (in Morgan style BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA), Leo - yes, so over rated and everyone loves to dis him. Maybe Brad Pitt or his spunky wife Angelina?

yeah Vincent D'Onofrio is one really scary guy, and hes completely unhinged in The Cell . . . so many scenes just blew my mind in that film!
the other romantic-comedy actor that i think doesnt get enough cred is Sandra Bullock . . . if i see Sandra or J.Lo are in any movie i will give it a go, i think they have a rare and undefinable charm!
madonna, ben affleck, brad, and leo . . . lets hope and pray they are all never in the same film together!

the whole concept is disturbing, it alternates between the serial killer in real life suspending himself with hooks through his skin and tormenting his victims by drowning them slowly in a time delay glass water tank, to the inner workings of his mind which is vibrant bizarre art by of the horrific kind with abstract mutilations and flashbacks to his abusive childhood . . . i would say its no worse than Pans Labyrinth so if you manage to sit through that you will probably enjoy The Cell
heres a trailer which shows a few good bits without anything too intense

Watching most of her films is like Chinese water torture. The only thing that surpasses her bad films is her atrocious music hahaha. I don't actually think she's a bad actor, I did really like her in Out Of Sight - she was subtle and sexy - I just can't stand most of the movies she makes but you know I'm really not a chick flick kind of girl.
I think she is a far better actor than singer. Her music makes me want to punch people. Hard.
The Cell was very visually arresting but I thought it was a bad film. I'm a negative nellie aren't I?

Maybe it's that I'm American and am deluged with Jennifer Lopez commercials, vapid news briefs, and videos--I am so annoyed with this woman.
I feel she is the same character in every single one of her films. And "Jenny From The Block" has not seen the ghetto in YEARS.
BUT . . . she is a natural on screen. Not a "cardboard" monster. I agree. She has talent. Not versatility--IMHO.
She is cute. Nice big booty. LOL. So I guess we agree there. Her music videos are nice booty exhibitions with catchy beats.
"Enough" is the best of the 6 for me. I just wish she could show more depth and variation, like Anthony Hopkins or Meryl Streep or Robin Williams or Jim Carrey or Kathy Bates . . .
Now, Water Torture is extreme, Cheryl. LOL. Maybe like a paper cut that just won't heal. A paper cut on your eyeball.
Sorry, Morgan. I agree half-ways.

thanks for the input!
i think she grew up in the Bronx and her parents were Pueto Rican but yeah i doubt shes hanging out on the streets with the crew from her old neighbourhood in real life they way she does on the screen lol
like alot of actors i think she sticks to a particular "type" of character but a paper cut on your eyeball? haha thats a bit harsh
i dont think ive seen her in any commercials over here . . . im really missing out!
thanks for stopping in!
