Movie Stinkers: the BOTTOM 100 films

July 19th 2008 10:33
Have you ever looked at the BOTTOM 100 movies as voted by user ratings on the IMDB?

I have to admit i had barely seen any of them (perhaps good taste on my part) but i knowingly nodded my head at quite a few!

Here's a selection of the worst of the worst:

Glitter (2001) starring Mariah Carey
Popstar (2005) starring Aaron Carter
Ed (1996) starring Matt LeBlanc and a chimp

Epic Movie (2007) teen spoof movie
Gigli (2003) starring Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck
Lawnmower Man II: Beyond Cyberspace (1996)
Son of The Mask (2005) Jamie Kennedy sequel of the Jim Carey classic
Alien vs Hunter (2007)
Zodiac Killer (2005)

Zodiac Killer garnered some of the funniest user comments i have ever seen, they were so scathing it actually made me want to watch the movie!

"Worse than a blind date w/ 40 year old ashtray"

"A 10 year old could have shot this in his back yard with a VHS camcorder (and it looks like they did)"

"Unbelievable garbage!"

"Even worse than it looked"

"86 Minutes of Torture!"

"Horoscope says you will tear your eyes out in pain"

CLICKHERE for full list on IMDB

Have you seen any real stinkers that deserve a place on the list?

Anything you would call garbage and rate 1/10?

Hey Morgan,
I am so thrilled that I have not seen any of the films mentioned here! Wasn't Madonna's Swept Away meant to be a real stinker? I haven't seen it either but I did notice it is in the comedy section of our video store - ironic humour on the part of the store manager perhaps.

I steer clear of obvious stinkers but did once borrow a film called Love and Other Disasters with Brittany Murphy. It pissed me off so much that I almost hurled the cover across the room. I did sort of review it over on my blog but it was really just an exercise in venom-spitting! I must say, though, that Brittany redeemed herself a few days later when I borrowed The Dead Girl - her performance was fab.

It does make you wonder how, when so many people are employed to make a single film, why no-one knew how to stop it from stinking. Or does it just grow horns and run away from them? Who knows? But thanks for warning us about these little gems.

hi Jayne,
i saw Swept Away and it was very very wooden, the actual concept might have been better with different actors, Madonna was supposed to be a rich uncaring materialistic snob and i just dont think she pulled it off . . . Goldie Hawn in Overboard was much better!

why no-one knew how to stop it from stinking

i think the same thing myself sometimes!
perhaps sometimes it is a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth?
thanks for the comment!

"Madonna was supposed to be a rich uncaring materialistic snob" - yes, I can see why she would have trouble with that!

hahaha yes good point!
although i think real life Madonna is "new money" and the character would have been more effective if played as "old money"

Hahaha I loved those comments on the Zodiac movie!

Honey starring Jessica Alba was terrible.

Sahara was pretty bad. Especially since they spent nearly $300 million making it.

I haven't seen any of these either... the original "Swept Away" is ferocious... it's hard to take, but also hard to take your eyes away from.

The Zodiac Killers comments are hilarious. For a moment I thought it was Zodiac, the one with Robert Downey Jr, and was taken aback because that was very good and then I saw the cover - different film based on the same story.

I did see about half an hour of Gigli a couple of weeks ago on TV but turned it off. Ick! I haven't seen the others you listed so I thought I would pop over and see what the bottom 100 were and I'm pleased to say I haven't seen any of them...although Anus Magillicutty is just begging to be seen with a name like that!

hi Cheryl,
yeah i was confused at first too with the titles being so close . . . apparently theres quite a few films based on the events of the real life Zodiac killer . . . some worse than others it seems! haha
Anus Magillicutty! haha
trust you to find a title like that!

Tee hee... I think a lot of people are familiar with the idea that a movie can be so bad that it's good...

Well, and I am ashamed to say this, but I saw a movie starring Orlando Bloom as a milk delivery boy turned boxer which was indescribably horrendous. It was called 'The Calcium Kid', and I *think* it was meant to be a mockumentary. Anyway, DON'T check it out - I believe I have suffered enough for all of you.

Hi Jayne!

It does make you wonder how, when so many people are employed to make a single film, why no-one knew how to stop it from stinking.

I've often wondered why people would spend their time collaborating on something which wasn't working, perhaps they don't realise the extent to which it's not living up to its aim, or they are swayed by others' enthusiasm for the misguided project and are mainly thinking about the riches and fame it may bring them... It's a good question to ask, so thanks for raising it!

hi epiphanie,
good to see you getting on board the Movie Train! haha
so not even Orlando Bloom could save "Calcium Kid" hey? must have been terrible!
i must admit i didnt think very highly of "Elizabethtown", i think his agent has alot to answer for!

I actually rented the movie *because* I wanted to laugh at Orlando Bloom's actng 'skills' (that, and I needed a fifth DVD), but he was much worse than I imagined...
Oh yes, Elizabethtown was another train wreck of a film... it should rate highly on any list of duds. And unless I'm mistaken I think the movie Jayne mentioned, Love and Other Disasters, also featured the one and only Orlando. Oh dear...
